ABOUT Mr. PIARE LAL

Mr. Piare Lal hails from a grassroots farming family of Punjab, India. After completing his graduation from Government Agricultural College, Ludhiana in 1961, he went on to obtain his post graduate AIFC Diploma in Forestry from the prestigious Indian Forest College at Dehradun.

He started his professional forestry career in the Andamans and Nicobar Islands and later joined the Punjab Cadre of Indian Forest Service through first batch of Direct Recruits  in the 1968 batch.

Then he proceeded to join Wimco Limited in July 1970 to prove his merit in private sector. He pioneered the unique success story of Clonal Poplar Plantations under farm forestry as the Group General Manager of the Agro-Forestry Division of Wimco Limited

He then joined ITC Bhadrachalam Paperboards Limited in the capacity of Vice President (Plantations) and pioneered research for development and deployment of genetically improved,  high yielding and disease resistant clones of Eucalyptus leading to yet another success story for large scale Clonal Eucalyptus Plantation.  Productivity of these clones proved to be  2 to 3 times higher as compared to normal seedlings, thereby leading to a colossal increase in profitability and large scale adoption of clonal plantations.

He has also won the prestigious Indira Gandhi Paryavaran Puruskar, 1999 in the Individual Category. This has been awarded by the Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government of India in recognition of his lifetime contributions to production forestry and environmental amelioration

He has also worked with the World Bank both as a consultant and as a member of several Mission Teams of the World Bank for evaluation of Forestry Development Projects.

Finally, he has published many technical papers in journals of repute and presented many papers in various national and international seminars.
